Trio Cleonice | The Russian Soul – The Russian Voice
April 7, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$15Trio Cleonice and Friends, a monthly chamber music series in the Parlor at United Parish in Brookline, presents “The Russian Soul – The Russian Voice”
This concert will be a departure from the usual format, offering a glimpse into their 2014 Yellow Barn artist residency “The Russian Soul – The Russian Voice” in which they spent ten days intensively exploring connections between Russian language/literature and Russian music.
For the April 7th program, the first part of the evening will be a sort of roundtable discussion, reading excerpts from Zoshchenko (mild language warning!), Gogol, and various Russian poets alongside commentary from Tom Hodge and the three members of Trio Cleonice. To conclude the evening, Trio Cleonice (Ari Isaacman-Beck, violin; Gwen Krosnick, cello; and United Parish member Emely Phelps, piano) will perform one of the great cornerstones of the piano trio literature, Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2, inviting the audience to re-examine this work through the lens of its distinctive Russian rhetoric.
Despite the different format, everything else is the same! The concert will take place in the United Parish Parlor and admission is by a suggested donation of $15, or $5 students.
