The wayang is a form of traditional shadow-puppetry from Bali, Indonesia that brings together elements from the island’s rich cultural traditions: narrative, theatre, ritual, design, music, movement, and comedy. Puppeteer Putu Rekayasa comes from a long line of performers on Bali’s north coast—he was steeped in the art form from birth and now works to push its technical and thematic limits. For this special event, Rekayasa will be joined by theatre artist Sam Gold and BU’s own Gamelankemana ensemble.
