Sun Printing: Intro to Lumen Prints

August 9 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Instructor: Peg O’Connell

In this workshop participants will explore the camera-less photographic process of lumen printing. Lumen prints, once washed with a nontoxic liquid and water, have a color range from rich yellows to oranges to reds. SImilar to cyanotypes, lumen prints uses the sun to expose the image onto paper. And just like suntanning, the longer the prints are in the sun, the prints have richer, deeper, darker hues.

Agenda/Topics covered

Participants will have learn how to create one of a kind lumen prints using silver gelatin paper (darkroom photo paper), found objects such as florals, feathers, or anything found in a junk drawer and the sun. After prints are exposed to the sun, we will learn how to make the prints archival with a nontoxic liquid bath and water.

Special Instructions

All supplies provided, yet students may bring feathers, pressed flowers. leaves or negatives to create meaningful lume s for themselves. If the day is rainy, we will use LED lights indoors to expose the prints. A half hour lunch break is included.
